Rupani Foundation collaborates to launch the Millennium Alliance Portal, an innovative program for global development through public-private partnerships.

The GSB initiative grew out of the 2002 UN Global Compact policy dialogue on "business and sustainable development." It was presented and endorsed in a high-level session at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002, attended by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, UNDP Administrator Mark Malloch Brown, heads of state including British Prime Minister Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac, chief executive officers of global companies and representatives from labour, non-governmental organizations and other UN organizations.

Overall Objective of the GSB initiative is:
  • To contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable development by promoting and facilitating sustainable business and investments by the private sector, through a process of multi-stakeholder engagement with Government, civil society, the UN family and other development organizations.

Recognizing the need for increased collaboration between the Private Sector, Government, Civil Society, the UN family and other development organizations, the Rupani Foundation has worked with the MDG Awards Committee, UN Ambassadors, members of the business community and NGOs and other development organizations to determine a way to enhance collaboration.

The result is the development of the Millennium Alliance Portal (“MAP”). MAP permits, in a totally secure environment, a corporate or personal investor to list their investment criteria, and matches it with the needs of NGOs, Governments, UN Agencies and other not for profits. Uniquely, the MAP will also blend needs with opportunities so that self-sustaining revenues can be created. Under MAP, corporations, without making their requirements public, will be able to review opportunities that match their investment objectives. If they want to pursue the collaboration, even “in-kind” as a potential investment, MAP will manage and coordinate the protocol.

At another level, on a global basis, the MAP e-wallet will permit individuals and corporations to match their desire to donate funds, services, products or time to a project that will achieve sustainability.

The MAP communications system permits state of the art communications that includes VOIP and Video Conference, White Board Presentations and more, helping to overcome the communications issues that are always a part of a project. In addition, for NGOs and Agencies that need assistance in creating a business proposal that will appeal to a CFO or corporate shareholders, MAP will provide the assistance with its support staff and through the participation of a capital management firm and financial experts. In September, Business Schools will be invited to participate on a global basis to support projects and initiatives under MAP.

Rupani Foundation firmly believes that this innovative program, first of its kind in the world, will result in a unique collaboration between the public, private and civil society organizations, to foster effective and timely development of areas and people around the globe.
