Established in 2006, the not-for-profit Montessori Model United Nations is the largest Model UN program for students from 9 to 16 years of age, and is the only Model UN program that follows Montessori learning principles to educate its participants, inspiring them with a strong sense of global citizenship. Schools from as far away as India, Alaska, Haiti, Mexico and the Virgin Islands, as well as almost all areas of the United States and Canada, have attended the MMUN Conferences in New York City.Rupani Foundation hosted the first Texas-based Montessori Model UN (MMUN) Teachers Training Workshop on November 8 and 9, 2008. Teachers attended state-wide from Houston, Dallas, Austin and Georgetown. The purpose was to expose more Texas Montessori teachers to the MMUN program, with the goal of making Texas the first state to host Montessori Model UN Regional Conferences. Such conferences would open the door for more students to participate in and benefit from this important course. One goal of Rupani Foundation in the coming year is to work with the State Governor's Office to create a pilot program that would be available to all Texas schools.
